Distribution and origin of sedimentary organic matter in an eutrophic estuary: Pina Sound – NE Brazil

چکیده

Eutrophic estuaries receive organic matter (OM) inputs from multiple sources. This study evaluated the distribution and origin of sedimentary OM in an eutrophic estuary (Pina Sound, NE Brazil). Thirteen samples were collected sublittoral addition to major local Biochemical (chlorophyll - Chl), elemental [(C/N)a C/S ratios] isotopic (δ 15N δ 13C) analyses carried out for characterizing redox conditions. The SIAR mixing model was used quantify contribution main At Pina is associated with mud, reflecting hydrodynamics control on deposition suspended particles. Microphytobenthic production limited ([Chl a] < 1000 µg/g carbon) where Chl degradation products prevail (mean [Pheopigments] = 2643 ± 958 carbon). Anoxic conditions (C/S ratio ≈ 2) are typically observed sediments deeper portions Sound. Such high loads subject poor water renewal. According model, Sound composed of, average: 50% phytoplankton, 24% sewage 26% C3 plants. reflects fertilization untreated sewage. has a great potential retain sewage-derived OM.

Sources and dynamics of sedimentary organic matter in Sundarban mangrove estuary from Indo-Gangetic delta

Introduction: Mangrove forests are highly productive ecosystems distributed along the tropical coast line. Nutrient biogeochemistry of mangroves are primarly driven by both allochthonous and autochthonous sources. Characterization of organic matter in coastal ecosystems enables to understand the biogeochemical transformation of organic matter and its influence on ecosystem productivity in respo...

Anthropogenic sources and distribution of phosphorus in sediments from the Jaguaribe River estuary, NE, Brazil.

This paper estimates annual P emission to the Jaguaribe River estuary, NE Brazil, responsible for approximately 30% of the country's farmed shrimp production. Emissions increased three times between 2001 and 2006 and reached 43.9 t.year-1. These emissions make aquaculture the third main source of P for this estuary and are much smaller than emissions from agricultural sources and slightly lower...

Dissolved organic matter status in Damietta estuary of the Nile.

The seasonal distribution of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in Damietta estuary of the Nile was investigated to show the influence of organic pollution. The DOM values increased generally with depth. The vertical values of DOM varied from 0.23-9.97 mg O/l. The average DOM values gave noticeable local variations in each month and pronounced monthly variations at each station. The maximum monthly...
